How do I understand Job Time vs NRH?

Learn how how Job Time and Non-Revenue Hours affect payroll and labor budget tracking.

What is Job Time?

Job Time includes any hours clocked directly against a specific project's labor budget.

How Job Time Drives Your Bonus Pool

The entire incentive structure in the app is built around Job Time:

  1. Bonus Pool Creation: When a job is created, a percentage of the total job revenue is set aside to form the Labor Budget (the initial bonus pool).
  2. Chipping Away: As workers log Job Time, their hourly wages chip away at this allocated budget.
  3. Payout: When the job is completed, any remaining funds left in the labor budget are awarded directly to the workers and foreman as a performance bonus!

Bottom Line: The faster and more efficiently a team completes a job, the less Job Time is logged—resulting in a larger payout for everyone involved.

Common Examples of Job Time

  • Labor on-site: Active physical or technical work performed on the job.
  • Travel to/from site: Drive time heading to the job site or leaving it upon completion.
  • Job Preparation: Staging equipment, loading materials, or prepping tools specifically for that job.
  • Material Runs: Leaving the job site to pick up extra supplies or materials required for the project.

What are Non-Revenue Hours (NRH)?

Non-Revenue Hours (NRH) refer to logged hours that do not directly contribute to an active, revenue-generating job.

How NRH Affects Your Pay

Because NRH activities do not generate revenue for the company, these hours are tracked separately and are not billed against a job's labor budget. While employees are still paid their standard hourly wage for these hours, NRH does not draw from or directly impact any job’s bonus pool.

Common Examples of NRH

  • Warranty & Call-Back Work: Returning to fix or address prior work issues after a job has closed.
  • Training & Onboarding: Safety courses, skill development, or platform training.
  • Company Meetings: Team huddles, performance reviews, or general company-wide meetings.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Servicing tools, repairing machinery, or maintaining fleet vehicles.

NRH does affect your bonus if hours earlier in the week cause your Job Hours to go into overtime.

BE AWARE:
NRH is paid in addition to Job Hours and Bonus. Set deterministic rules around utilizing Non-Revenue Hours with your team. It's possible to have a large bonus AND get paid a large amount of overtime.
If your team normally has a lot of meetings, equipment maintenance, or any other non-revenue category regularly at the end of the week, consider moving the schedule to earlier in the week.
